Web Fidelity Service: Web Adaptation

Bytemobile's Web Fidelity™ Service dynamically and transparently intercepts all web requests from mobile browsers and adapts the web page according to the device's characteristics and capabilities.

Users can browse the full Internet, as well as preformatted mobile portals, from their existing WAP 2.0 browser. By prefetching and adapting the content on the server, then downloading only the simplified page, Web Fidelity Service offers dramatically faster browsing. And the core of the solution includes handset optimization, which ensures that all adapted pages are optimized for content and delivery.

Web Adaptation Features

Transformation Features

Mobile Handheld Rendering

Using Opera Software's Small Screen Rendering (SSR) technology, Web Fidelity Service (WFS) reformats (or adapts) all web pages into a single-column mode, improving the overall browsing experience.

JavaScript Processing

Before reformatting the web page into a single column, WFS processes relevant JavaScripts and includes the results in the adapted web page.

Style Sheet Application

WFS processes and applies all style sheet rules indicated in the referenced CSS before generating the adapted web page.

Page Splitting

Most mobile browsers exhibit specific resource constraints that limit the overall size of the web page that can be rendered safely on the device. WFS recognizes these limitations and honors them while generating the adapted version of the web page. If the accessed web page is larger than the acceptable size for the device, WFS splits the web page into multiple subpages, caches each, and returns the first subpage. For easy navigation, WFS includes HTTP links to the other subpages in each subpage.

Image Resizing

WFS resizes large images in the web page to the dimensions of the device screen. This reduces the total number of bytes downloaded to the handset and makes resizing them again unnecessary, thereby increasing efficiency and improving the browsing experience.

User Experience Features

Header and Footer

WFS automatically generates a header and a footer, which include navigational aides that the operator can configure.

Caching

WFS offers multiple caches to optimize the user's overall browsing experience, including a subscriber-specific private cache.

Secure Site Handling

WFS allows end users to browse secure sites with content adaptation. Deployed in the core of the operator's network, WFS is typically subject to rigid security guidelines. For secure websites, WFS establishes a secure tunnel between itself and the content server through which all communication proceeds over the open Internet — regardless of the mobile browser used.

Device Support

WFS supports the adaptation of full-HTML web content to both native mobile browsers and the optional and downloadable Opera Mini™ browser.
