Smart Capacity™ for Streaming Media
Streaming video and audio applications generate a growing percentage of data traffic on mobile networks. These applications are designed to transmit data at the highest levels of quality supported by the network – which means that they aggressively consume network capacity and frequently cause congestion.
Bytemobile policy control solutions address the impact of maximum capacity consumption by streaming media and impose limits on low-priority traffic during hours of peak usage. The key components of policy control are:
- Streaming Video Policy Control, which enables network operators to manage bandwidth utilization by RTMP and HTTP live streaming video, both encrypted and unencrypted
- Streaming Audio Policy Control, which provides similar capabilities for streaming audio applications
- Software Download Policy Control, which allows operators to time-shift automatic software update traffic from busy to less busy hours and therefore avoid congestion

In addition to policy control, Bytemobile offers operators a range of tools to direct and manage traffic in their networks:
- Content Filtering, which protects subscribers from objectionable content
- URL Redirection, which controls the routing of traffic flows and the services applied to them
- Quota Management, which supports data consumption monitoring and enforcement of fair use policies
Bytemobile Smart Capacity platforms also operate as a Policy and Charging Enforcement Function (PCEF) when integrated with the Policy Control and Charging (PCC) architecture. These platforms support operator initiatives to develop and implement tiered service plans that map revenue generation to subscriber content preferences and usage profiles.

Bytemobile platforms function as a PCEF in the PCC architecture.
