Cricket Manages Wireless Network Traffic with Bytemobile’s WebGate Service

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., - March 25, 2009

Bytemobile, Inc. the global leader in mobile internet solutions for wireless network operators, today announced the successful deployment of its next-generation mobile internet gateway solution in the high-speed network of Cricket Communications, Inc. Bytemobile’s WebGate™ Service provides a centralized service control point within the network for data traffic and enables Cricket to intelligently control data flow while simplifying the delivery of new data services.

Cricket is a subsidiary of Leap Wireless International, Inc., which operates in 30 states and hold licenses in 35 of the top 50 U.S. markets. Cricket offers its customers access to a variety of the latest devices and feature-rich mobile applications such as text, instant and picture messaging, games, ringtones, wallpapers, and the mobile Internet. Cricket’s affordable, flat-rate service plans are delivered over its high-quality, all-digital CDMA2000 1X and 1xEV-DO
wireless network.

Cricket first deployed the Web Optimization application of Bytemobile’s Optimization and Services Node (OSN) in 2007. This application reduces data traffic over the wireless link and speeds up the download of web pages and other internet protocol (IP) services to mobile devices. Web Optimization dynamically adjusts to network conditions, thereby increasing the effective bandwidth available to individual users and improving their mobile experience. Web Optimization supports all wireless devices — from feature phones to laptops — and all networks from 2G to future Long-Term Evolution (LTE) and WiMAX.

“As network operators offer a multitude of inline services, it becomes difficult to coordinate and control them,” said Adrian Hall, chief marketing officer of Bytemobile. “Because of its unique position in the core data path of the network, WebGate Service provides operators with the ability to inspect and process all traffic types at the application level. As a result, they can design services built around captive portals, filter objectionable content, deliver innovative applications, and enforce fair use policies. We look forward to continuing to work with Cricket as it launches and scales new wireless data services for its customers.”

Like Web Optimization, WebGate Service is an application of Bytemobile’s OSN, which is currently deployed in the networks of 104 operators in 54 countries and 12 of the world’s top 15 tier-one operators. To learn more about Bytemobile’s WebGate Service, go to:
