Velcom Drives WEB-accelerator Client with Bytemobile Technology

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., - July 14, 2009

Bytemobile, Inc., the global leader in mobile internet solutions for wireless network operators, today announced the successful launch of its web optimization solution at Velcom in Belarus. Velcom has deployed Bytemobile’s Optimization and Services Node (OSN) on the Unison™ Mobile Internet Platform to drive its WEB-accelerator client for laptops and handsets.

“Our new WEB-accelerator service is the result of a detailed review of our customers’ requirements for wireless data speed,” said Martin Lippautz, chief marketing officer at Velcom. “Bytemobile’s optimization technology has enabled us to provide our subscribers with significantly faster downloads while effectively reducing the volume of data transferred on our network. As a result, we are able to offer our customers a higher quality of service at a reduced cost.”

Velcom was the first operator in Belarus to roll out a GSM network, providing consumers with high-speed wireless internet access. Serving nearly 4 million customers, Velcom ranks second in number of subscribers in Belarus and covers territory in which 96% of the Belarusian population resides. The company’s network uses GPRS and EDGE technology to deliver mobile communication services under the brand names ‘Velcom’ for postpaid and ‘Privet’ for prepaid. In 2007, Velcom became part of the mobilkom austria group, one of the largest telecommunications holdings in Europe.

Velcom’s WEB-accelerator client has a simple Russian interface and is available for download on the company’s website at www.velcom.by/en/. The service is available free of charge to Velcom subscribers.

Data Fuels Revenue Growth

According to a recent report by Informa Telecoms & Media, Central and Eastern European wireless operators will see annual mobile data revenues increase 107% from $11.3 billion in 2008 to $23.4 billion in 2013. As a result, the proportion of operators’ revenue generated by wireless data is forecasted to increase by more than half, from 19.4% in 2008 to 30.4% in 2013.

“It has become critical for operators to strengthen their network infrastructure in order to stay competitive and profitable,” said Adrian Hall, Bytemobile chief marketing officer. “With Bytemobile’s Unison platform-based solutions in its network, Velcom can control the effects of continued traffic growth within the footprint of its existing installations and cost-effectively scale capacity ahead of data usage trends, while launching new mobile data services. We look forward to strengthening our partnership with Velcom as it continues to innovate and add value for its subscribers.”

Bytemobile’s mobile internet solutions include web and multimedia content adaptation and personalization, mobile advertising, content filtering for parental controls, web and multimedia optimization, and intelligent traffic control. All applications are consolidated on the Unison platform — a single node in the core data path of the network — for efficiency, scalability and ease of new service deployment. Bytemobile provides systems integration services for third-party hardware platforms, operating systems, load balancers, switches, and application software to support its Unison platform.
