Bytemobile, Inc., the global leader in mobile internet solutions for network operators, today announced that KDDI Corporation has deployed its Unison™ Optimization Services Node (OSN) Monaco™ Edition for the acceleration of KDDI’s CDMA Packet Access (CPA) service. The in-network deployment was managed by NEC Corporation, Bytemobile’s new reseller partner in Japan. KDDI’s Bytemobile-powered CPA Kaisoku (High-Speed) Data Option, launched on September 5, accelerates website access and file transfer for CPA service on laptops by
up to 5x.
KDDI operates Japan’s second largest mobile network, serving 28 million total subscribers and 24 million data subscribers at the end of July 2007. The new CPA Kaisoku Data Option targets enterprise remote access users and is available at no additional monthly charge. CPA users simply apply for the option and download special client software for installation on their laptops.
“Speed is a critical element of the user experience and key to attracting and retaining data subscribers,” said Akihiro Nakashima, general manager of Mobile Solution Product Planning at KDDI. “NEC offered us the best data optimization solution in terms of performance, capacity and scalability. Also, Bytemobile’s Unison platform provides a growth path for the delivery of optimized web and multimedia services on a full spectrum of mobile devices.”
“We are pleased to partner with Bytemobile in helping KDDI to launch new services such as the CPA Kaisoku Data Option,” said Toshiaki Tanaka, general manager of the Network Service System Division at NEC. “The performance improvement that KDDI has achieved demonstrates the perpetual value of optimization for even the fastest networks.”
“KDDI is an important market win for Bytemobile in Japan,” said Nobuhiko Tsuji, vice president and general manager, Japan. “We look forward to deepening our relationship with NEC and developing new mobile internet solutions for KDDI’s growing subscriber base.”
Bytemobile’s Unison OSN Monaco Edition uses proprietary data reduction, protocol acceleration and content caching techniques for the dynamic optimization of data traffic. In addition to optimization, the Unison portfolio of integrated internet protocol (IP) services includes: Web Fidelity Service™ for open web browsing and Media Fidelity™ Service for internet video play on feature phones and smartphones; ACCESS Mobile™ Content Filtering Service for parental and operator content controls; and WAP Gateway Service for portal access on Wireless Application Protocol handsets.
Installed in the core data path of the operator’s network, the Unison open architecture provides seamless interoperability of deployed IP services, improved network efficiency and faster time to market. As a result, operators can deliver richer media on smaller devices without increasing the cost or complexity of their network infrastructure. The Unison platform supports both clientless and client-based applications.
