Bytemobile Projects Vision of Mobile Lifestyle Enabled by Smart Networks at ITU Telecom World 2006 Forum

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. - December 4, 2006

Bytemobile, Inc., the global leader in dynamic optimization solutions for mobile data networks, today announced the publication of a paper by its founder and chief technology officer, Dr. Constantine Polychronopoulos, at ITU Telecom World 2006 Forum, December 4-8, in Hong Kong. The paper — Intelligent Wireless Networks: Delivering on the Promises of the Mobile Lifestyle — was published in the forum proceedings in connection with a panel session, “The Promise of Advanced Wireless Services,” scheduled for December 5. The complete forum proceedings, including the Bytemobile paper, are available on the ITU Telecom World 2006 Forum website at http://www.itu.int/WORLD2006/index.html.

“We appreciate this opportunity to share Bytemobile's thought leadership in mobile and wireless technology and its potential applications with the prestigious global audience attracted by the ITU Telecom World Forum,” said Dr. Polychronopoulos. “It was an honor to be accepted for participation in the forum, and we look forward to similar opportunities to reach network operators and their data service subscribers through industry events of this caliber.”

The abstract of the Bytemobile paper is as follows:

  • The vision of the mobile lifestyle — founded on the technical convergence of high-speed wireless networks, rich content, and smart mobile devices — is finally materializing. The science fiction of a few years ago is now the science fact of increasingly intelligent wireless networks. Whether they're sensing devices and subscriber profiles, advertising time- and place-specific services or supporting global mobility and ubiquitous connectivity, intelligent wireless networks are delivering on the promise of mobile data and fundamentally changing the way we keep in touch, keep abreast, transact business and entertain ourselves. Unlike the wireless and wireline networks of the past that focused on access and bandwidth, the intelligent networks of the future will be built around services and support for mobility. There are three enabling factors that fuel the emergence of “smart” networks: (1) VoIP and the integration of communications and data applications as demanded by the drive toward “convergence,” (2) support for mobility and roaming, and (3) the computational and ergonomic capabilities of hand-held devices that continue to improve. In this paper, we outline a realistic scenario of the most demanding applications for the wireless networks of 2010 and beyond. By identifying the functional and performance requirements of such applications, we sketch the high-level architecture of the IP core of 3G and future 4G networks, and their building blocks, the next-generation network elements.

According to Dr. Polychronopoulos, the vision of the mobile lifestyle enabled by intelligent wireless networks that is advanced in the Bytemobile paper is consistent with the company's technological strategy and roadmap.

“Bytemobile's mission is to perpetually optimize the end-user experience by enhancing the delivery of all information to all consumers, anywhere, on any device,” said Dr. Polychronopoulos. “In line with this mission, our products and services are designed to help carriers build tomorrow's networks today.”
