Bytemobile, Inc., the global leader in optimized Internet protocol (IP) services for mobile data networks, today announced that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has issued the company two new patents covering key elements of its core technology for dynamic network optimization. The new U.S. Patents are No. 7,024,460 for Bytemobile's “Service-Based Compression of Content Within a Network Communication System” and No. 7,031,314 for its “Systems and Methods for Providing Differentiated Services Within a Network Communication System.”
“The two patents announced today, as well as other patent applications pending both in the U.S. and internationally, support the growth of a strong intellectual property portfolio for Bytemobile,” said Constantine Polychronopoulos, Ph.D., the company's founder and chief technology officer. “This portfolio reflects our early and sustained leadership of the global market for wireless data network optimization, and our emerging strength in the optimized delivery of IP data services to mobile devices.”
Bytemobile's two new patents cover essential processes that compress the content and reduce the volume of data processed for each transaction. All data not required for a specific service passes through the network at wireline speed, thereby reducing overall network latency, which delays user response time on mobile handsets and laptops. The result is improved network capacity and performance, and increased return on the operator's investment in network infrastructure. The corresponding enhancement of the user experience supports the attraction and retention of network subscribers, as well as increased average revenue per user (ARPU) through the delivery of new data services.
The first of the patents, for service-based compression of content, applies to a service module's interception and identification of data packets for email service that are communicated between client and server. The service module directs email packets to a special application for compression and formatting of the email message and subsequent processing through the network data stream, as well as decompression and reformatting on reception of the message by the client device. This patent includes 22 claims related to these processes.
The second patent, for systems and methods concerning differentiated services, applies to the service module's interception and identification of data packets for multiple service applications and processing of application-specific data between client and server with enhanced efficiency. This patent includes 27 claims related to these functions.
Since the first customer deployment in 2001, Bytemobile optimization solutions have been installed in the wireless networks of nearly 70 mobile operators worldwide. These operators support nearly one billion mobile subscribers in 30 countries across Asia, North America, South America, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Customers include Centertel, China Mobile, Cingular, KPN, NTT DoCoMo, O2, Orange, Sprint Nextel, T-Mobile, Telecom Italia Mobile, Telefónica Móviles, Vodafone, and Willcom.
Bytemobile network services and optimization solutions unify, simplify and accelerate the deployment of advanced wireless data services to mobile handsets, laptops and PDAs. Mobile network operators around the world have chosen Bytemobile products to maximize the profitability and efficiency of their networks, while providing IP services such as content filtering for parental controls and content charging for diversified service billing.
