Motorola and Bytemobile Enable Flexible Content Charging to Create New Revenue Streams for Service Providers

Real-time solution tracks user behavior to trigger charging and complementary applications, while increasing control over quality of service

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, III. and MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. - April 4, 2006

Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) and Bytemobile, Inc., a global leader in optimized Internet protocol (IP) services for mobile data networks, announced today that they have joined forces to help service providers increase average revenue per user by enabling flexible and personalized ways to charge for and sell content services. By integrating Bytemobile’s Unison™ open architecture solution with Motorola’s Global Applications Management Architecture (GAMA), the new Motorola Intelligent Charging Solution identifies user behavior in real-time to trigger flexible content charging and the promotion of complementary applications.

The two companies also announced today that Motorola has become a global reseller of Bytemobile’s Unison IP services, following a successful regional channel partnership in Asia and South America. These services include content charging for diversified service billing, content filtering for parental controls, and dynamic optimization of wireless data traffic.

The Motorola Intelligent Charging Solution offers service providers the flexibility to charge per message sent, for the size of the message, or for the message content. This provides operators the ability to offer their customers à la carte, flat-rate, or bundled pricing options.

In addition, service providers can leverage user behavior identified by the Intelligent Charging Solution to generate complementary applications. For example, if a user is logged into both instant messaging and interactive gaming applications, the system can send an instant message, inviting the user to chat with another gamer while they play. This helps service providers realize the potential for increased revenue per user.

“Telecom, like other industries, is moving to bring additional value through customization-one size doesn’t have to fit all,” said Navin Mehta, Motorola's vice president, Applications Management. “Our Intelligent Charging Solution gives service providers the ability to offer new delivery and cost structures that more accurately reflect customer use.”

“The ability to integrate Unison network services with GAMA enables us to help Motorola deliver unified end-to-end solutions that decrease latency, reduce network operating costs, and improve service and capacity for customers,” said Adrian Hall, Bytemobile’s vice president, Business Development. “Bytemobile’s reseller relationship with Motorola has already led to the deployment of network optimization solutions for customers and we anticipate similar success with the Intelligent Charging Solution on a worldwide basis.”

Motorola’s GAMA enables application management, quality of service (QoS), security, and policy management that deliver flexible charging capabilities and mediation to the mobile service providers’ billing system. GAMA also provides the service orchestration that enhances the user experience by providing faster access to multi-media content.

Bytemobile’s Unison solution ensures that only the data traffic required for a specific IP service is processed through the data path, while all other traffic passes at wire speed. As a result, network latency remains unchanged as service providers add new data services.
