Bytemobile's Transparent Client Software for Symbian OST Automatically Connects with Widely Deployed Optimization Servers and Allows Network Operators to Improve Service Offerings.
Bytemobile, the company dedicated to delivering pure, optimized access to network operators, service providers and enterprises, today announced that it has joined the Symbian Platinum Program to support the growing market for smartphones based on Symbian OS. As a Platinum Partner, Bytemobile extends its Optimization Client (OC) software to the Symbian OS ecosystem. Symbian develops and licenses Symbian OS, the global industry standard operating system for smartphones, to the world's leading handset manufacturers. Symbian OS licensees account for more than 85% of worldwide mobile phone sales; in 2003, more than 6.67 million phones based on Symbian OS were shipped worldwide and more than 12 million have been sold to date.
Bytemobile's Optimization Client for Symbian OS will connect with Bytemobile's Optimization Service Node (OSN), which is widely deployed at major wireless operators around the world. The client-server solution provides a major capacity boost for operators and significantly faster effective data rates for end users.
Our mobile network operator customers want to keep their subscribers happy, which means giving them the fastest possible download speeds and easy access to their favorite applications on Symbian OS smartphones, said Adrian Hall, vice president of business development for Bytemobile. The OC for Symbian OS is a natural extension of our Dynamic Optimization product line. Running transparently on the enormously successful Symbian OS, the Bytemobile OC can seamlessly connect with any one of our mobile network operator based OSNs and instantly provide a faster and more useable data experience, which means better adoption and revenue for the operators.
Bytemobile customers who have installed the company's OSN Vodafone, Orange, T-Mobile, Sprint, Cingular and many others will be able to extend the benefits of the Symbian OS smartphone optimization client to their users. Bytemobile's Dynamic Optimization solutions comprise a combination of data transfer reduction and protocol acceleration techniques, which have been used successfully to triple effective data rates for laptop and PDA access over the past several years. Running in conjunction with Symbian OS, the client software will provide a similar speed-up for browsing on Symbian OS smartphones.
Bytemobile's Dynamic Optimization technology is changing the browsing experience on smartphones, said Morten Grauballe, VP, Product Management, Symbian. We are pleased to have Bytemobile join the Symbian Platinum Program and bring its optimization technology to the Symbian OS ecosystem. The way in which the Bytemobile solution greatly improves the end-user experience exemplifies how our companies are working together to make wireless services more useable for end users and more cost-efficient for operators to deploy and service.
The availability of this new optimization software for Symbian OS comes at a critical time in the industry when mobile network operators are focused on getting returns from large investments in 3G infrastructure. Although 3G systems are delivering higher per-user data rates, IP applications protocols such as HTTP browsing still suffer from inherent network latencies since these protocols were designed for low latency wireline networks. The OC for Symbian OS can remove the effect of network latency by using enhanced protocol technology that more efficiently transfers data over the 3G airlink.
Bytemobile's Optimization Client is a critical component for bringing the smartphone to the mass market. It is a powerful complement to the recent developments in browser, OS and other application technologies, which have reached a critical level of sophistication. This convergence is finally allowing end users to economically access richer content. For operators, this convergence enables continued increases in ARPU due to wider adoption of data services.
Bytemobile delivers on the promise of mobile data with pure, optimized access that enables the way people really want to work and play in the wireless and wireline world.
Bytemobile solutions allow mobile operators, enterprises, ISPs and other service providers to significantly enrich the user experience of current and future data networks. By making applications more desirable and valuable, Bytemobile customers can maximize returns on existing and future mobile network investments.
Bytemobile's market-leading solutions are deployed at more than 30 mobile network operators around the world. Customers include BT Retail, Cingular, Nextel Communications, Orange, Sprint, T-Mobile, US Cellular and Vodafone. The company is headquartered in Mountain View, California, and has sales offices in East Sussex, England; Tokyo, Japan; and Shenzhen, China; and a technology development center in Patras, Greece.
The Symbian Platinum Program includes companies that have a technology or strategic position that is key to the success of mobile computing technology surrounding Symbian OS. As part of the program, Platinum Partners benefit from a range of commercial services, including technical support and joint marketing opportunities as well as privileged access to Symbian OS source code and a dedicated Partner Support team.
