Bytemobile Joins Symbian Platinum Program to Enable Faster and More Cost-Efficient Data Access on Smartphones

Bytemobile's Transparent Client Software for Symbian OST Automatically Connects with Widely Deployed Optimization Servers and Allows Network Operators to Improve Service Offerings.

Bytemobile, the company dedicated to delivering pure, optimized access to network operators, service providers and enterprises, today announced that it has joined the Symbian Platinum Program to support the growing market for smartphones based on Symbian OS. As a Platinum Partner, Bytemobile extends its Optimization Client (OC) software to the Symbian OS ecosystem. Symbian develops and licenses Symbian OS, the global industry standard operating system for smartphones, to the world's leading handset manufacturers. Symbian OS licensees account for more than 85% of worldwide mobile phone sales; in 2003, more than 6.67 million phones based on Symbian OS were shipped worldwide and more than 12 million have been sold to date.

Bytemobile's Optimization Client for Symbian OS will connect with Bytemobile's Optimization Service Node (OSN), which is widely deployed at major wireless operators around the world. The client-server solution provides a major capacity boost for operators and significantly faster effective data rates for end users.

Bytemobile customers who have installed the company's OSN Vodafone, Orange, T-Mobile, Sprint, Cingular and many others will be able to extend the benefits of the Symbian OS smartphone optimization client to their users. Bytemobile's Dynamic Optimization solutions comprise a combination of data transfer reduction and protocol acceleration techniques, which have been used successfully to triple effective data rates for laptop and PDA access over the past several years. Running in conjunction with Symbian OS, the client software will provide a similar speed-up for browsing on Symbian OS smartphones.

The availability of this new optimization software for Symbian OS comes at a critical time in the industry when mobile network operators are focused on getting returns from large investments in 3G infrastructure. Although 3G systems are delivering higher per-user data rates, IP applications protocols such as HTTP browsing still suffer from inherent network latencies since these protocols were designed for low latency wireline networks. The OC for Symbian OS can remove the effect of network latency by using enhanced protocol technology that more efficiently transfers data over the 3G airlink.

Bytemobile's Optimization Client is a critical component for bringing the smartphone to the mass market. It is a powerful complement to the recent developments in browser, OS and other application technologies, which have reached a critical level of sophistication. This convergence is finally allowing end users to economically access richer content. For operators, this convergence enables continued increases in ARPU due to wider adoption of data services.
