Bytemobile Optigo™ Enterprise Optimizer Debuts at DEMOmobile 2003

New Optimization Solution Boosts Remote Worker Productivity with Data Speeds and Enterprise Application Functionality Previously Available Only on a LAN.

La Jolla, CA - September 17, 2003

Bytemobile, Inc., the company that enables pure, optimized access over any remote connection, today launched its Optigo Enterprise Optimizer at DEMOmobile 2003. The Optigo solution provides a LAN-like user experience for enterprise remote-access users of email, web and other corporate applications by increasing data performance up to 10 times over that experienced with low-bandwidth, high-latency wireless, dial-up and other networks.

"Today, more than 90 million people in the US workforce are mobile," comments Chris Shipley, executive producer for DEMOmobile. "Fast connections and improved application performance are critical to mobile workers."

"Slow data rates and limited functionality of key applications, such as Microsoft Outlook with an Exchange server, are real pain points in the enterprise adoption of mobile data. And, of course, security is a significant concern," says Steve Livingston, Bytemobile's executive vice president of worldwide sales and marketing. "The Optigo solution is designed to be easily integrated into the enterprise without requiring any changes to application or network security infrastructure, and without relying on limited web access or synch solutions. As a result, remote enterprise users can greatly improve their experience and productivity while IT managers see a quick ROI and lower remote access charges."

A LAN-like Experience for Users of Microsoft Outlook with Exchange

The Optigo solution provides session resiliency and speed-up for all accessible applications. Specifically, for Outlook with Exchange, the solution incorporates several innovations to enable fast, optimized remote access to email and calendar functions over low bandwidth, high latency networks. Major usability and performance-enhancing features include: full-featured email and calendar; real-time push email; ability to manage attachments; universal application compression; and, flexible user configurations.

"Consider the example of a remote worker who just wants to get through an email session with Microsoft Outlook," says Livingston. "Our tests on a GPRS network show that without Optigo optimization, the session takes almost 30 minutes to complete, including downloading, reading, responding and synching the emails. The same session takes about five minutes to complete on an Optigo optimized network, and just about four minutes on a corporate LAN."

"Today some 50 percent of enterprise workers use Outlook, so this is a big issue when you're looking at remote access," says David Nowicki, senior director product marketing and management at Bytemobile. "With an Optigo solution deployed in the enterprise network, remote users can work with the familiar Outlook interface, receive LAN-like push mail and manage the amount of data they transfer. There's no need to learn a new interface or to continually synch up."

The Optigo solution gives users the ability to intelligently manage their attachments. For instance, remote workers can choose to download one or several attachments from multiple attachments within a single email. They can also choose to only download messages without attachments. This gives the end-user an easy way to wade through a large number of new emails and only focus on the most important ones. No time is wasted waiting for less important emails to download.

Breakthrough Technology to Enhance the Remote Access Experience

The Optigo client server solution is based on Bytemobile's proprietary MacaraT Dynamic Optimization Technology and comprises a suite of advanced classification, data reduction and protocol acceleration approaches that significantly improve remote access and application performance.

"We've brought several key technical advances to enterprise users," said Nowicki. "Dynamic Interleaving™ technology is a unique approach we've developed that virtually eliminates the effects of latency and jitter in web browsing. The benefit to end users is much faster and more consistent data rates — LAN-like rates, in fact, from wherever they are."

The Optigo Enterprise Optimizer also ensures that a full-security, client-initiated VPN model is preserved because optimization is performed both before and after data passes through the encrypted tunnel. The solution is transparent, noninvasive and independent of network topology, so it provides all the key benefits of access and performance without requiring any changes to existing applications.
