Bytemobile, the company dedicated to improving the mobile data experience, today announced that Orange Denmark will deploy its Macara platform, an optimisation service node (OSN), that will provide customers with faster and more secure Internet access. The Macara deployment is due to go live in February 2003.
"Bytemobile was chosen following a successful internal assessment and the successful implementation of the Macara solution by Orange UK," said Colin Kendrick, Senior Procurement Manager at Orange Denmark. "The Macara platform enables us to optimise IP-based data such as web or file downloads and email traffic, so we can deliver even faster, and more reliable data services to our customers."
The Macara OSN dynamically optimises the delivery of IP-based data on wireless networks through a process of data reduction and protocol acceleration. Practically, this means that Orange Denmark customers will be able to experience near-to wireline access speeds and that Orange Denmark can optimise the use of available spectrum to maximise the return on investment from its network and radio technologies, which delivers significant capital and operational cost savings.
"By deploying the Macara OSN, Orange Denmark can today roll out 3G-style, revenue-generating mobile data services on its existing GPRS network with a highly enhanced level of quality and performance. This will not only drive the adoption of future services and devices but also maximise subscriber retention, particularly in the important high-usage business segments," says Renato Iwersen, Bytemobile's vice president, International Sales. "The selection of Bytemobile's Macara solution underscores Orange's continuous commitment to provide the most robust wireless data environment and the highest quality services available."
As part of the Orange Denmark deployment, the Macara OSN will optimise Internet access for the Orange SPV, a new Microsoft-powered device that enables users to synchronise with their PC's email, schedule, notebook and other functions in Outlook.
Today's announcement follows the deployment of Macara by Orange UK in October 2002.
