Bytemobile Opens Tokyo Office to Pursue Opportunities in World's Fastest-Growing Wireless Market

Renato Iwersen Joins Team as VP of Sales for Asia.

Tokyo, Japan - September 25, 2002

Bytemobile, the company dedicated to accelerating the growth of the wireless data market through significantly improving the user experience and operator efficiency, today announced the opening of a sales support office in Tokyo. This signals the company's increasing commitment to the Japanese market and to establishing itself as the partner of choice for Japanese mobile network operators wishing to optimize their data offerings.

In expanding its presence in the region, Bytemobile is now making it easier for Japanese mobile network operators to integrate the MacaraT optimization service node (OSN). The Macara OSN dynamically improves the delivery of IP-based data, including web pages and email, on wireless networks and significantly improves bandwidth utilization. As a result of this optimization, end users experience faster data rates and more robust connections and operators can reduce capital equipment investments and expand their network bandwidth while promoting subscriber retention. The technology stands to play a key role in Japan's continuing wireless data growth.

"Japan continues to be a leader in wireless data adoption – that's clear from the deployments and growing subscriber uptake," said Bytemobile Executive Vice President Steve Livingston. "With Bytemobile, mobile operators can further their subscriber adoption and usage of mobile data due in part to a faster, more reliable and cost effective solution. Bandwidth will always be precious and Bytemobile's solution will help optimize the network providing for more efficient utilization of the resources and lowering the capital investment required for the data growth."

Bytemobile has hired Renato Iwersen as vice president of sales for Asia. Iwersen's first focus is on attracting Japanese mobile network operator customers.

Iwersen has ten years of experience successfully directing international sales and marketing of high-technology products. Before joining Bytemobile, he served as managing director of international business for Nexsi Systems Corporation, establishing worldwide sales operations and channels to large enterprises and carriers. Previously, Iwersen was director of sales and marketing, Americas, for Macrovision Corporation.

During his five years as director of sales and marketing for Diamond Multimedia Systems (acquired in 1999 by SONICblue Inc.), Iwersen took the brand from third to first position in the Asian market during the Asian economic crisis.

According to Iwersen, "this is a very exciting time for me and for Bytemobile. The new office represents an excellent opportunity for us to strengthen our ties with our mobile network operators and industry partner customers in Japan. Japan is the second largest economy in the world and we're committing the resources needed to succeed there." He continued, "Bytemobile's technology and Macara optimization service node (OSN) are high-value offerings being used by major operators like Vodafone and Sprint and our Japanese customers recognize the benefits these operators are already experiencing. Bytemobile's in-country team, led by networking and wireless professional Hiroshi Segawa is poised to succeed."

The new Bytemobile Japan office is located at the following address: Sankyo Bldg. Annex-2, 1-7-9 Iidabashi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo 102-0072 JAPAN. (Phone: +81 3 5537 1477)
