Bytemobile Hires Karl Freter as Chief Architect

Executive Team Build Out Supports Bytemobile's Commitment to Mobile Data Services Market.

Mountain View, Calif. - July 23, 2002

Bytemobile, Inc., a leading provider of data optimization and service-enabling infrastructure to mobile network operators, today announced that Karl Freter has joined the company as chief architect. Freter reports to Dr. Constantine Polychronopoulos, a Bytemobile co-founder and the company's chief scientist.

"Karl Freter is a significant addition to Bytemobile's senior team," said Polychronopoulos. "His breadth of experience in the mobile data industry provides a solid foundation from which Bytemobile can develop solutions that propel the market toward third-generation products and beyond."

Freter's experience suits perfectly Bytemobile's commitment to the mobile data services market and the drive toward third-generation products. Prior to joining Bytemobile, Freter founded Cambia, a company focused on CDMA and GPRS access gateways and optimization: there, he also served as chief architect. From 1996 through 2000, Freter was lead architect and engineer for U.S. Robotics, delivering second-generation wireless data gateway products and gaining a thorough understanding of issues related to wireless data.

"My goal is to leverage our existing best-in-class optimization technology and reporting capabilities to enhance new carrier-based and network-based services," said Freter. "The functionality provided by the Macara platform today extends itself to optimizing multi-media services and performing user-specific optimizations. The knowledge contained within the Macara node can be used in conjunction with other mobile operator infrastructure node information to provide additional efficiencies in operations that will benefit the operators, corporations and end users."
