Bytemobile Pens License Agreement with Daedalus Networks

Advanced Reporting and Event Monitoring Offered to Mobile Network Operators through Bytemobile Macara Platform.

Mountain View, Calif. - July 23, 2002

Bytemobile, Inc., a leading provider of data optimization and service-enabling infrastructure to mobile network operators, today announced a licensing agreement with Daedalus Networks, a provider of event processing software for mobile network operators, to integrate the Daedalus innovative event-based reporting and billing-support feature set into the Bytemobile Macara platform. The combined functionality enables operators to monitor, aggregate and bill selectively for applications based on a per-user, per-application or per-domain basis. Application activity is separated into events, where an event is defined as a user-understandable action, such as sending or receiving an email, or sending or receiving an SMS or MMS message.

According to Dr. Constantine Polychronopoulos, a Bytemobile co-founder and the company's chief scientist, operators' efforts to implement diversified billing plans, such as pre-payment, have been hampered by cumbersome billing processes that necessitated charging per byte, which tends to confuse most customers.

"By adding the Daedalus event-based billing-support software to our Macara platform, operators can bill customers by event, rather than by bytes," said Polychronopoulos. "This lays the groundwork for per-user and per-corporation service plans by providing an understandable billing metric that is acceptable to the customer."

The Macara platform is an optimization service node (OSN) that significantly enhances an operator's network efficiency and the overall end-user experience through a variety of optimization and personalization features. The flexibility gained through the Daedalus software ensures that billing plans can be tailored to the needs of each customer or corporation. The Daedalus software allows for easy changes to user plans, facilitating immediate updates to specific user or corporation billing plans to cover changes in usage patterns.

"The Bytemobile-Daedalus offering brings operators a new level of billing control required for data services that do not subscribe to the all-you-can-use pricing plan," said Paris Zafiris, chief technology officer with Daedalus.
