Senior Systems Engineer (Patras, Greece)
Reporting to the Systems Engineering Manager, the Senior Systems Engineer deals with the more complex tasks of the group, demonstrates ownership and takes responsibility for the technical solution, from initial design to execution of test and integration activities through delivery of a packaged solution to the product management and professional services teams.
The Senior Systems Engineer is proactive and innovative, coaching and actively sharing knowledge with colleagues to enable them to develop their technical knowledge and their understanding of the organization and its processes, with the ultimate objective of ensuring a highly skilled Systems Engineering and Integration Department with a reputation as a trusted advisor to Bytemobile’s field and development engineers. This position also reviews and improves current processes, practices and procedures and suggests or develops new processes and procedures as appropriate to increase the efficiency of the Systems Engineering team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define and execute end-to-end hardware integration test plans for Bytemobile’s new Unison hardware platforms, such as the IBM BladeCenter H and Sun Blade 6000 platforms
- Define and execute end-to-end integration test plans for new Unison networking platforms, such as core network switches (1 and 10GbE), L2-L7 application switches and blade switches
- Conduct end-to-end capacity testing of the Unison platform using cutting-edge testing equipment (such as the Spirent Avalanche), mirroring actual customer deployments
- Customize and integrate third-party software with the Unison platform to deliver a turnkey solution to the Bytemobile field engineering and customer support teams
- Demonstrate thorough technical knowledge of the operation and process flows of all Bytemobile products and third-party elements
- Collaborate with Solutions and Professional Services architects to gather requirements and define custom systems integration solutions for the Bytemobile customer base; own responsibility for delivery of these solutions
- Assist in producing effective documentation and official configuration guides for both internal and external use
- Work closely with the core product development engineering teams to troubleshoot and identify and resolve issues raised in Systems Engineering test activities
- Collaborate with the Product Management and Engineering architect teams to respond to RFPs, requirements and issues related to Systems Engineering team solutions
Required Qualifications:
- Experience in implementing carrier-grade systems integration solutions in a commercial environment
- Advanced Solaris and/or Linux system administration and networking skills
- Mid-to-senior level skill with shell scripting and Perl or Python
- Systems integration expertise, with TCP/IP skills in data networking and internetworking
- Good knowledge of LAN network infrastructure: security, routing, network management, performance management
- Proven ability to analyze and troubleshoot data traffic
- Proven ability to produce succinct technical design documentation and integration plans
- Knowledge of fundamental networking components and protocols
- Proven ability to learn new technologies independently
- Demonstrated leadership skills
- Proven ability to look at the big picture: understand product architectures, requirements and testing challenges and come up with effective test methodologies and plans
- Highly organized, professional approach to assigned tasks, with proven ability to assume ownership and complete tasks independently, with minimal direction or supervision, on time and to budget
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, within the team and across departmental teams

Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering (or related discipline)
- Professional experience in software development and engineering with C/C++
- Experience with mobile devices and related protocols (WAP, PPG)
- CCNA and CCNP certification
- Broad understanding of mobile network infrastructure (2.5 and 3G, GPRS, UMTS)
- Experience with traffic management, shaping and QoS technologies
- Knowledge of advanced routing protocols such as BGP and OSPF
