The Mobile Broadband Revolution

Thursday, January 5th, 2012

Keith Mallinson of WiseHarbor cites the industry imperative of expanding mobile broadband capacity to meet subscriber demand. In his article in FierceWireless, December 14 - “LTE is bringing a mobile broadband revolution” - he suggests “three ways to expand radio network capacity: increasing spectral efficiency, deploying more spectrum and building additional sites with smaller cells.” We agree and would also point out that Smart CapacityTM solutions help mobile operators meet subscriber demand by maximizing the efficiency of their network infrastructure.

Countdown to 2016

Tuesday, January 3rd, 2012

Tariff Consultancy Ltd has predicted a 60% pricing plunge for LTE by the end of 2016. This means that from today to 2016, mobile network operators will have five years to ensure that their mobile data profitability doesn’t plunge by 60%, too. Fortunately, time is on their side – Smart CapacityTM solutions for traffic management and content optimization are available today, helping operators turn escalating volumes of mobile data traffic into profitable revenue growth. Here is one notable example - Vodafone 2011 Half-Year Results.

New Year’s Prediction

Thursday, December 29th, 2011

As 2011 gives way to 2012, it’s time to reflect on the past and look ahead to the future. Around the beginning of this year, Bytemobile announced video optimization agreements with 36 mobile network operators worldwide. Since then, that number has increased by 25%, and many of those deals have become live network deployments.

Our prediction is that by the end of 2012, our individual customer wins for video optimization will increase by 55% from the original count, as mobile video viewer penetration and demand for video continues to grow.

Best wishes for a happy and prosperous New Year.

Christmas Congestion?

Thursday, December 22nd, 2011

The chilly weather of the holiday season is upon us, and congestion management is on our mind. Not just because our sinuses are congested, but also because December 25 is considered one of the busiest days of the year in terms of network traffic. Historically, this has been due to a surge of voice calls, emails and text messages among family and friends. This year, as people turn on the shiny new smartphones in their Christmas stockings, the networks will be inundated with mobile app downloads as they configure their devices; with YouTube or other video content as they check out their connectivity, performance and screen resolution; and with Facebook updates such as “Liking my new Apple/LG/HTC/RIM/Samsung/? smartphone”. Managing this deluge of demand with Smart CapacityTM traffic management techniques will help relieve network congestion so that all of the lucky gift recipients have a happier Christmas Day.

On that note - happy holidays to all of our readers.
