The Smart Capacity Ecosystem

Wednesday, February 29th, 2012

Mobile network operators are demanding “standardized interfaces between Operations Support Systems and the production infrastructure [for] the deployment of new technologies and services”. We understand the requirement for vendors to address interoperability issues in order to ensure that mobile data services and data plans can be deployed in a timely, efficient and cost-effective manner. It is in part this perspective that motivates two of our public announcements this week – strategic partnerships with Citrix and Openet. We are actively extending the Smart CapacityTM ecosystem to help operators simplify and streamline the deployment of solutions to manage the impact of OTT content on mobile operator’s networks.

Super Bowl XLVI Drives Mobile Data

Wednesday, February 8th, 2012

Industry data indicates a strong consumer trend towards multi-screen, interactive viewing of major events. Bytemobile’s analysis shows that while mobile video traffic declined, traffic to ESPN.com’s mobile site over U.S. operator networks spiked more than 200% at the start of Super Bowl XLVI on February.  By halftime, it had dropped to 30% higher than normal. By the end of the game – when Tom Brady’s Hail Mary pass fell to the ground in the end zone among a crowd of New England receivers and New York defenders – the number of hits over mobile networks had jumped again to over 200%.  Clearly, mobile devices continue to drive the interactive viewing experience, and mobile networks need to accommodate corresponding spikes in subscriber demand.
