Mobile Milestones: Olympics to Election

Three weeks ago, we took a look at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing as a catalyst for mobile internet adoption worldwide.  Now, we can take a look at some interesting statistics from this milestone event:

Mobile Milestone

  • According to China Mobile, 1 million viewers watched more than 300,000 hours of mobile TV programs covering the Olympics.
  • NBC Universal made more than 3,600 hours of coverage available online, via mobile phones and across its cable channels.
  • In the first week of the games, NBC registered about 500,000 people a day who requested Olympic content over their mobile devices. (more…)

With around 3.5 billion handsets in circulation worldwide today, we can see how mobile telephony/computing is growing across socioeconomic and cultural boundaries and revolutionizing the way we conduct our lives and our business. Wireless phones have been used to mobilize hundreds of thousands of peaceful demonstrators in countries across the world with text messages and brilliant political ringtones.

A Winning Formula: Bytemobile Unison Platform on IBM BladeCenter

Bytemobile and IBM have signed an Industry Solution Integrator (ISI) agreement. Under the terms of the agreement, Bytemobile will bundle the Unison™ Mobile Internet Platform with the IBM BladeCenter for deployment with mobile network operators worldwide. Bytemobile’s current BladeCenter installations include several customers in Europe, Africa and North America, many of which have deployed Unison solutions at multiple data centers. (more…)
